Adela Garcia (b 1971) was born in Cabrera, Dominican Republic. Her family was too poor to afford gymnastic class, so she did most of her training at home. At 17 she started weight training, joining the army’s ROTC (Reserve Officers’ Training Corps) program in college. Adela started teaching aerobics in 1995, soon becoming a professional fitness competitor. Since then, she has won six titles – a record – in Miss Fitness Olympia.
